Today, I have an interview with a very special worker at the American Girl Store in Boston, Massachusetts! This is Deborah Doucette, a personal shopper! Deborah has been my personal shopper for over a year and I absolutely ADORE her!! She is such a big help! I asked Deborah a few questions about her experience with American Girl. Here's what she said!
EDS: What do you like best about working for American Girl?
Deborah: There are actually many reasons I love working at American Girl! Of course, Mattel is a great company to work for, but beyond that, I just love the atmosphere, the girls, the moms, and helping to bring fun and joy to everyone who visits. What could be better? It's simply a happy place to work and, as a Personal Shopper, I am able to personally deliver a little magic to a girl's day; that's what makes it a very special job.
EDS: How long have you worked at American Girl?
Deborah: I've worked at American Girl Boston since their opening in fall of 2009. Before that, I was a real estate broker for many years.
EDS: What is your favorite Doll?
Deborah: I would have to say Molly is my favorite. She is from my own time period - 1940s - and I think she is adorable with her braids and round glasses. I own her of course!
EDS: Who is your favorite Girl-of-the-Year?
Deborah: That is a good question. I have my favorite themes, like Chrissa's that tackled the issue of bullying, and I loved that Lanie came from Massachusetts and was into gardening. I also thought McKenna was the prettiest until Grace came along. But now, Grace is my all-time favorite! I love her dark hair, blue eyes and thicker eyebrows. Also, she has my favorite face mold. I'm half French so I like that connection and that she is also from Massachusetts. In addition, I think it's great that her story encompasses her grandparents, extended family, and striving to have her own business. Yes, Grace is the winner! So far...
EDS: What is your favorite Historical (BeForever) Character?
Deborah: Although I am fond of Molly, I really like Kit and her story. I certainly identify with her desire to become a reporter - that is how I started my professsional writing career as well - and I enjoy her plucky, hard-working, adventuresome personality and the fact that she rescues a dog. I think Kit's story is the best!
EDS: What is your favorite American Girl Set?
Deborah: That is easy - Kit's typewriter! It's so well made and it symbolizes her desire and love of writing that I share. There have been some really fun and interesting sets over the years: I love that we have a Science Set now, Addy's Ice Cream Making Set is just perfect, Josephina's Adobe Oven, and I'm personally very fond of each of the Lunch Boxes - Molly's, Julie's and Kit's. Laines's Camper was pretty spectacular and Grace's Bakery is Amazing! American Girl puts so much thought and detail into all of their product - and I'm sure I'm forgetting some - but the ones I mentioned are my favorites.
Thank you so much for the interview Deborah!
