STARRING: CASSIDY, KELLY AND MCKENNA
THREE YEARS AGO…
Kelly had noticed that when Cassidy was out playing, she wouldn't respond when her name was called. You could ask her a question and she wouldn't answer.
"Cassidy!" Kelly yelled when Cassidy was practicing her ballet in her sister Isabelle's room.
Cassidy didn't answer.
Kelly decided that Cassi needed to get her hearing checked.
Kelly took Cassidy to a special doctor named Dr. Brooks. Dr. Brooks would give Cassidy some tests to see if she would need hearing aids or a Cochlear implant to help her hear.
Once they got to Dr. Brooks' office, Cassidy put on a hospital gown and played with her American Girl Doll, Isabelle, while she waited for her appointment to start.
A couple of minutes later, Dr. Brooks came in and tested Cassidy.
"Cassidy, I want you to tap on the table every time you hear a noise," Dr. Brooks said as she put headphones on Cassidy.
Dr. Brooks made four noises. Cassidy only tapped once.
"Okay, Cassidy. Your results show that you have a sixty decibel hearing loss and are hard of hearing. You won't need a Cochlear implant, but you will, however, need hearing aids in both of your ears. You will also need to visit a hearing specialist once a week, to possibly gain some of your hearing back," Dr. Brooks stated.
"When will she get her hearing aids, and what will we need to do?" Kelly asked.
"We will take her ear molds today, and she will get to design her hearing aids today. They will be ready for pick up in two hours. You will have to change the batteries in her hearing aids once a week. Cassidy, you are not allowed to get your hearing aids wet or wear them while you sleep, okay?" Dr. Brooks informed them.
Cassidy choose to make her hearing aids pink and white with a pink ear mold. Her favorite colors!
Kelly bought Cassidy some hearing aid batteries, and by then, her hearing aids were finished!
Cassidy tried on her new hearing aids, while Dr. Brooks turned them on.
"Cassidy, your hearing aids are now on. Can you hear me ok?" Dr. Brooks asked.
"Yes! I can hear everything now! Even my own self talking!" Cassidy exclaimed happily.
"Thank you, Dr. Brooks!" Kelly said.
Then, Kelly and Cassidy went home.
