The
Big Arrival

I remember it very vividly. Being
tucked in a colorful box in a foreign country and sent across the seas. I was
with other dolls too. All of us Graces. 1500 of us actually. All being sent to Natick,
Massachusetts to a place called American Girl.
That
was two days ago. Here we are in a beautiful lively store, being brought in by
the ton. All stored in an enormous back room, bigger than the entire factory in
China. At night, we mingled with the dolls on either side of us (since we were
unable to move free from our colorful boxes). Then New Years Eve arrived.
While
most people were at parties, throwing confetti, drinking champagne, or freezing
outside in NYC, the workers here at American Girl Place Boston were busy
setting up displays! I saw Ed* and Mara setting up my pop up display, Tina and
Deborah were dressing other Grace dolls in their new outfits to be models, and
even Amanda came down from the kitchen to help set up! Ashley was watching over
them with a careful eye. Suddenly I felt a thrust and was being carried over to
a window display with a bunch of other Grace dolls.
At
last the Grace Thomas display was completed a couple hours later. I have to
say, it looked amazing! I was placed on top of a big pile of Grace dolls. I
had a clear view of the $500 Bakery, and I have to say, I couldn’t wait to get
my hands on that thing. But I was tired from my journey. Maybe I could just…
zzz…
Suddenly,
noise broke throughout the store and hundreds of people filed in! “I hear they
have been waiting for hours,” one of the dolls next to me said. “Woah! Here I
goooo!” I heard as the doll on the opposite side of me was lifted into the air
by a husky woman who looked to be in a hurry. She scurried off just as a sweet
looking young girl walked into the store. She looked around for a second, then
grabbed my box without hesitation. Confidently, she put me under her arm and
continued looking around the store. My heart filled with happiness. She chose
me. SHE CHOSE ME!
Two
hours later, we were checked out at the store, and I was carried over to P.F.
Changs. There, My box was opened and I was gingerly brought out of the box. The
girl made a fuss over me and brushed my long brown hair. “Khylie,” she said.
“Khylie Grace Thomas. She’s perfect!” the girl said as she hugged me close.
That is how I knew we were going to be friends forever.
