Isabelle Gets Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes: A Photo Story

"Isabelle! Time to get ready for school!" Nellie called early that morning.

"Ugh! Okay," Isabelle called back, as she got up for another day at Anna Hart School for The Arts.

Isabelle walked into the kitchen with her purse just as Mia was finishing up breakfast.

"Mia, I don't feel very good. I feel really hungry, thirsty, dizzy and tired," Isabelle said.

"Oh no! You poor thing! You should probably stay home from school today. Nellie can take you to the doctors when Cassidy goes for her hearing doctor at 10." Mia said, taking Issy's bag.

~ 3 HOURS LATER~

Isabelle got into Nellie's car, and they drove to the nearby hospital.

The nurse got Issy into a hospital gown and got her a hospital ID bracelet.

The nurse took Isabelle's blood and hooked her up to an IV.

"The doctor will be with you in a moment," the nurse said before she left.

About 5 minutes later, Dr. Maxwell came in.

"Isabelle Marcelline Julia Palmer?" she confirmed as she walked in with her laptop. "Your blood tests show that you have Type 1 Diabetes."

"Oh no! Is it serious?" Nellie asked.

"Not if Isabelle here learns how to manage it herself. She will be fitted with an insulin pump and given a glucose monitor today and she will have to give herself insulin before she eats." Dr. Maxwell explained.

~LATER THAT NIGHT~

Isabelle had been released from the hospital, and was at home with her sisters, Savannah and Anna. They were sitting in Anna's room.

Anna and Savannah, who are also a Type 1 Diabetics, were demonstrating to Issy how to use the insulin pump.

Isabelle's new pink insulin pump's site was on her arm so it would be easy to put on a leotard for dance. Savannah's blue insulin pump's site is also on her arm, and Anna's purple insulin pumps site is on her stomach.

"Thanks Anna!" Isabelle said. "Now I can manage my diabetes much better!"
